Baseball

Last night Jack had a baseball game. It has been so much fun watching him get better and better in this sport and it seems to be one he really loves.

His first year in T-Ball, he LOVED his coach (Thanks, Brook Talbot!) He loved him so much, that he would look up at "Coach" with those big brown eyes and say, "Coach, will you hold me?" Brook would gladly oblige, but I am pretty sure that is why Brook no longer coaches the little guys.

His first year of T-Ball he was learning the rules of the game. One favorite memory includes Jack giving the ball a mighty whack off the tee, then standing there. "Run JACK!" we were all shouting to which he replied, "WHERE?!?!?!"

T-ball was filled with sweet memories of the batters fielding thier own balls, running to third base first, and powerful pile ups of 4 year olds (who were wearing their mitts as hats, by the way) who were trying to fight for the ball that was buried beneath them.

Now that they are 6, they are so much more grown up.

Shenanigans now include, picking the grass and throwing it at each other while waiting in their "order" to bat and finding 2 (or 3) runners at second base. They are civilized enough now that when they are waiting at first to run to second, they will often have passionate conversation with the first baseman (so much that "RUN JACK!" is still part of the cheering) I am not too sure what he likes to chat with the first baseman about, but Jack feels strongly enough about it that he sticks his tongue out at the other kid when the kid disagrees. Probably something about Star Wars.

He has another great coach this year. While Jack is far too mature to ask the new coach for a hug, I know he still loves the guy.

And we love every minute of it.
