Birthday fun

This weekend we celebrated Jackson's 6th birthday. What a fun weekend!!! I took a half day off on Friday and the three of us partied it up. We had lunch together, then went birthday shopping. Jack found a couple toys he really liked (Star Wars a go-go.) Afterwards, we visited with Zac and his office. Jackson just idolizes his uncles!

Saturday came the big birthday party. We had several of Jackson's friends down to the Discovery Children's Museum in Salt Lake. Isaac and Stephen are friends from school. Cameron, Liam, Maliyah, and Malachai are friends from the neighborhood. And of course, the cousins: Kaycee, Sierra, Ashlyn, Sadie, Olivia, Sammy, Evritt, Kate and Bea. And parents and Nonni, naturally. Most of Jackson's favorite people were there and they had a great time. They were able to decorate superhero masks and were able to attend a superhero training with Lightning Woman. They all ran around until they were ready to fall down tired. Then came the cake, and then more play. They had a great time.

Later that night, Sadie, Livie, and Sam were able to come over and play with Jack for a few hours. They watched Kung Fu Panda and of course played the Wii. Another fun night.

I am so proud of the little man that Jackson has become. He loves to make people laugh and has such a sensitivity towards other's feelings. He brings such a sparkle to our home. He is a bit of a goofball, but so tender. His Nonni made him an afgan for his birthday...one of the children there said, "Just a blanket?" and Jackson responded, very defensively, "My Nonni made that!" It cracked us all up.

What a blessing this little boy has been in our lives. I thank the Lord every day for him.

Hmmmm

I feel compelled to write a blog entry this morning...not sure why.

I had this great little New Year's Epiphany last night while playing Mob Wars on Facebook. (If you haven't yet, ya gotta try it!) I always write myself a respectable list of New Year's resolutions and I am one of those folks that has lost the list by mid-March and can not remember what was even on it! I think I found my little key to success for this year, inspired by my sweet friend Heidi (I don't think she reads the blog, but credit to her anyway.) With my decided and intentionally shorter list of must do's this year, I am going to not focus on doing them all year, but rather focus on doing things over the course of the week. Much less intimidating. For example: I am going to focus on exercise THIS week; not necessarily worry about what I will be doing for exercise next October. I think if I can have "perfect" weeks, then I will build up the stamina to hopefully have "perfect" months which will allow me to run a marathon next fall.

We'll see if it works. Any suggestions out there for making and keeping resolutions?

Review Friday!!!

So...I'd like to provide you with a little bit of a review on a few things we have done this past week.

1. The Shack...the book by William Young. I really liked this book...a lot. Although some of the theological points were sketchy, the concept was wonderful. I loved the author's writing style and could not seem to put it down. One of those books I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about, so I would drag myself into the living room, next to the fire and read more about this guy's conversations with God. It made me look at my relationship with God a bit differently and I finished with resolutions around how I would spend this coming year coming closer to Christ. A real winner.

2. Valkyrie...the movie. This is not your typical WWII Hitler movie. I enjoyed it, but not as much as my history geek hubby did. I really loved that they showed that not all Germans supported the evil that Hitler advocated. I am thankful for good people who are willing to stand for right even when it means that they and their families might suffer for it. I am not a huge Tom Cruise fan, and I probably wouldn't go see the movie again, but I am glad I did see it.

3. Body Worlds...the exhibit. Loved, loved, loved it! If you haven't seen it, it will be in town through the 11th. I would highly recommend it. At first, I thought the idea was a bit morbid, but after waiting over an hour to get in, I realized how worth the wait it was. I was so fascinated by the displays and appreciated the respect the attendees had for what they were looking at. I came away from the exhibit with a more profound awe of the bodies that we are blessed to have. It is a miracle that we can beat up our bodies through exercise (or lack thereof) and what we eat and the body still does whatever it can to keep up. It gave me such a compelling resolve to continue to make my body healthier. To honor the temple that it is.

Well, there you go. Long post, but oh well. It is my blog and I will do what I want with it. :)
